If you are planning to visit Canada, it is important to know if you need a permit to enter. Depending on your nationality you may need an Electronic Travel Authorization or a visa Temporary Resident Visa. You can check the link for additional information on your nationality and what you need to enter Canada.
Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) This official document when issued will be linked to your passport number. When you arrive in Canada you only need to present your current passport with which you requested the eTA. The validity of this permit is usually five years or the expiration of your passport if its validity date is before five years. During this period, you can make as many trips as you wish to Canada. Having an eTA does not guarantee you enter Canada. Upon arrival, a Canadian Border Services Officer will evaluate your documents and authorize your entry and define the maximum duration of your visit, which is usually up to 6 months.
Temporary Resident Visa (TVR). Thia is an official document stamped in your passport that allows you to enter Canada when evaluated by a Canadian Border Service Officer (CBSA). The validity of this document is during the time it was authorized at the time of issuance. Like eTA, the duration of each visit is determined by CBSA agents at the moment you enter Canada.
There are general requirements that apply to both documents;
Satisfy an officer that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay
Hold a valid passport
Be in good health (you may be required to complete a medical examination prior to entering Canada)
Be law abiding and have no criminal inadmissibility issues, no record of criminal activity
Not intend to work or study in Canada unless previously authorized
Have enough money for your stay
